Rotary clubs in Northern Virginia are actively engaged in a variety of community service projects, from feeding the hungry to supporting parent associations in schools, leading blood drives, and more. Volunteer Alexandria is a great resource for those looking to get involved in the community, as it connects people over the age of six with volunteer opportunities. Rotary clubs have been around since the early 1900s and have since become a powerful force for solving community problems. In 1985, the RI Planning and Research Committee proposed that Rotary clubs around the world dedicate ten years to literacy.
The 3-H Program was created to carry out large scale service projects that exceed the capacity of individual Rotary clubs or groups of clubs. Rotarians and clubs in the United States also voluntarily donate funds for the construction of the entrance to the Rotary parade. To celebrate this designated month, many clubs organize international conferences, invite young exchange students and international academics from schools and universities to club meetings, plan programs with former members of the group study exchange team, organize debates on international issues, offer entertainment with an international cultural or artistic theme, and program other programs with an international emphasis. Rotary clubs around the world place special emphasis on the many programs sponsored by Rotary that serve children and young people.
Rotary members are passionate about making a difference in their communities and are always looking for new ways to get involved. Whether it's through donating funds or volunteering their time, Rotarians are dedicated to making a positive impact on their local communities.
