The Rotary Club of Alexandria is a dedicated group of individuals who share a passion for community service, networking, and companionship. Becoming a Rotarian connects you to a diverse group of professionals who are committed to giving back. The club provides funding for programs and activities that involve young people up to 30 years old in their community and in service projects that encourage their interest in Rotary. Interact clubs must be sponsored and supervised by a Rotary club and must plan annual projects to serve its school, the community, and the world.
The governor has extensive knowledge of Rotary's current programs, purposes, policies, and goals and is a person of recognized prestige in his profession, community, and Rotary club. Approximately 36 percent of Rotary Youth Exchange students are hosted or sent by clubs in the United States and Canada. In 1922, it was decided that all Rotary clubs would adopt a unique design as an exclusive emblem for Rotarians. Rotarians and clubs in the United States voluntarily donate funds for the construction of the entrance to the Rotary parade.
All members should plan to attend a Rotary International convention to discover the true internationality of Rotary. The essence of the Rotary Peace Program is to use Rotary's non-governmental but global resources to develop educational programs on issues that cause conflict between nations of the world, as well as on influences and activities that promote peace, development, and good will. Each spring, Club members provide staff to organize the shooting event at two field competitions sponsored by the Special Olympics in the Potomac Region of Virginia. Every Rotary club and every Rotarian take responsibility to find ways to improve the quality of life of the members of their communities and to serve the public interest.
Meeting rituals are always carried out in a way that respects the religious convictions and beliefs of all members and visitors. Many clubs use the decorative banners they have received to display attractively at club meetings and district events. The Rotary Club of Alexandria provides funding for specific programs and activities that strengthen core programs; provide initial funding for a new program, program element, or initiative; or support capital expenditures. To celebrate this designated month, many clubs organize international conferences, invite young exchange students and international academics from schools and universities to club meetings, plan programs with former members of the group study exchange team, organize debates on international issues, offer entertainment with an international cultural or artistic theme, and program other programs with an international emphasis.
